Enugu West Academy Initiative.

On 6th March , we gathered at the International Conference Centre, Enugu, for the 2025/2026 Senator Osita Ngwu Scholarship and Bursary Award, a day dedicated to supporting hardworking young people whose only barrier should never be opportunity. A total of two hundred and fifty million naira was awarded to beneficiaries of the 2025/2026 scholarship scheme.

Through the Enugu West Academy Initiative, we continue to open doors, reward merit, and remind every child that their future matters. If a child is willing to learn, society must be willing to support, reaching both rural and urban communities to ensure that no child is left behind.

The beneficiaries, drawn from across Enugu West, include students currently studying in various universities, as well as high-performing candidates yet to secure admission. Those awaiting admission were also considered and awarded scholarships ahead of their placement into tertiary institutions.

The scholarship was awarded under four distinct categories to ensure inclusiveness and recognition of merit:

Categories 
Top Performance Category
Students who scored 300 and above in the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) were placed in this category and are to receive full scholarships.

Merit Category
Candidates who scored between 290 and 299 were recognised under this category.

Special Recognition Category
This category acknowledged students who demonstrated punctuality, discipline, and exceptional character, as well as those who contributed positively during the Enugu West Academy sessions.

Indigent Category
This category catered to students in need of financial assistance, irrespective of their UTME scores, ensuring that financial constraints do not hinder access to education.

The Enugu West Academy, an initiative of Senator Osita Ngwu, was established out of a long-standing vision to empower young people in the region through education. The programme provides fully funded lessons to students, including free UTME registration, with centres spread across the Enugu West Senatorial Zone.

Currently operating in 19 centres, the academy is staffed by trained teachers and has recorded significant academic success over the years. The scholarship scheme is a continuation of the initiative’s impact, as this is not the first batch of students to benefit from such support.

The programme continues to position education as a key driver of development, offering opportunities for students to pursue their academic goals and contribute meaningfully to society.
